Derek Johnson is a producer, cinematographer, and founder of Kaifilms with more than 20 years of experience across feature films, documentaries, television, branded content, and commercial production. Over the course of his career, he has contributed to more than 60 hours of produced content, including 5 feature films, four Emmy-recognized productions, nationally broadcast campaigns, and both scripted and unscripted television formats.

As lead producer, Derek has overseen projects ranging from independent narrative films to commercial campaigns with budgets exceeding $2 million, including a Clio Award-winning campaign for the Seattle Seahawks.

Known for combining cinematic visual storytelling with hands-on production leadership, Derek has built a career working across nearly every department on set — developing a grounded understanding of filmmaking from development through delivery. His work is driven by emotionally resonant storytelling, atmospheric visual language, and a commitment to producing commercially viable independent cinema.
