Kai Films was honored to film and edit Reverend Dr. Harriet G. Walden’s remembrance of her son Hiram for Seattle’s AIDS Memorial Pathway.

The story

Seattle was hit especially hard by the AIDS epidemic during the 1980s and 1990s. In this intimate film, Reverend Dr. Walden remembers Hiram on his birthday and connects his life to her own journey and work as an activist.

Production approach

The assignment called for restraint and respect. The production centered Reverend Dr. Walden’s voice, allowing memory, love, and loss to lead the story without unnecessary distraction.

Outcome

The finished film preserves a personal history within the larger story of Seattle’s AIDS community and supports the Memorial Pathway’s work of remembrance and public education.
