Synopsis

Still haunted by years of emotional and physical abuse at the hands of his father, an aging former hockey player confronts an overbearing coach about the dangers of “tough love.” In doing so, he challenges the coach to let his daughter simply play—and begins to face his own unresolved past.

Why this story matters

Organized sports can teach teamwork, resilience, and confidence, but the pressure applied by adults can also leave lasting harm. Seward asks parents, coaches, and communities to protect a child’s love of the game.

Director’s perspective

Director Deb Pralle drew on her own childhood experience in youth sports, where a supportive parent helped balance the intensity of an overbearing coach. That memory shaped the film’s central belief: children’s sports should first be about participation, growth, and joy.
